50 Cent's G-Unity Business Lab Proves To Be A Success, '66 Of My 75 Kids Have A Job Now'

Following the rapper’s move to Houston, TX back in May 2021, 50 Cent jumpstarted a 12-week program for 75 students from three local high school schools — Kashmere, Phyllis Wheatley, and Worthing Early College, AfroTech previously reported. 

Through the program, students receive an MBA-level curriculum aligned with 50 Cent’s book “Hustle Harder, Hustle Smarter” taught by volunteers to learn how to thrive as an entrepreneur, according to its official website.

“When you grow up under circumstances that I grew up under, it starts to feel like the biggest restraint is a financial restraint,” 50 Cent says, according to Defender Network. “I just want to be able to help provide programs that allow you the information to do it the right way.”

As AfroTech previously told you, the rapper invested $300,000 to spearhead the program and the Houston Independent School District matched his donation. With $600,000 in new funding, 50 Cent launched The Business Lab under the G-Unity Foundation with hopes to propel students to launch or manage their own company.

“This is an exciting partnership for the students of HISD,” said HISD Superintendent Millard House II back in May, according to Defender Network. “Curtis Jackson moved to Houston and immediately invested in our children, becoming a stakeholder in their future.”

The students from the trio of high schools were offered the chance to acquire educational resources from experts in their field twice weekly. And, as the year comes to a close, students have an opportunity to present the ideation of their business to investors and promising prospects will receive financial backing for their startup.

The program is proving to be a success for the city of Houston as now 66 students can celebrate a new chapter.

“66 of my 75 kids have a job now @gunitybusinesslab. Houston i’m so proud of this program 3 ward, 5 ward let’s get it,” 50 Cent shared on Instagram.
