Goodr has opened a new grocery store in Atlanta, GA.
The Atlanta-based company, which combines technology and logistics to combat food waste and fight food insecurity, is the brainchild of Jasmine Crowe-Houston.
“[Goodr] uses technology to solve hunger — that’s our big focus. I think we are taking a radically different approach to how this country solves hunger and food waste,” Crowe-Houston told AFROTECH™ in a 2021 interview. “A lot of times people say to me, ‘How is this a business? How can this be profitable?’ But, the main thing is people have to understand that billions of dollars get spent every year on food insecurity and trying to make sure people have access to food. But, it typically only goes to the same organizations.”
Goodr’s work has been furthered through at least $9.4 million in funding since its inception and through its partners. Already it has opened a grocery store with Denver Public School in Colorado with the support of Aetna and Amazon in November 2022, as AFROTECH™ previously told you. A year prior, with the help of rapper Gunna, Goodr opened a free grocery store and clothing store at McNair Middle School in College Park, GA.
The food waste startup shows no signs of slowing down. In December 2024, it celebrated the grand opening of its newest grocery store at the William Walker Recreation Center in Southwest Atlanta, reports Fox 5. Located in a food desert, the store will provide free meals to 100 local families and seniors each month, addressing a critical community need.
“We celebrated the ribbon cutting for the new Goodr Grocery Store at the William Walker Recreation Center in SW Atlanta,” the City Of Atlanta said on Instagram. “This store will provide 100 families with free monthly access to nutritious food, helping close the food insecurity gap in our community. With the support of Invest Atlanta’s $2.6M investment, Goodr continues to make a real impact, ensuring families have access to fresh, healthy food. This is a step toward building long-term food security and healthier neighborhoods for all. Thank you to Goodr for your commitment to our city!”
