Founder Marc Washington is the driving force behind a gut health nutrition brand that has raised millions.
Washington has an extensive history as a leader in the consumer wellness space. According to his LinkedIn profile, he worked at The Wonderful Co. as director of strategy for FIJI Water from 2005 to 2007. After a six-year tenure at Teleflora, he returned to The Wonderful Co. as its chief financial officer. His resume also includes roles as president and COO at Beachbody and CEO at Irwin Naturals.
Today, he is fully focused on leading and prioritizing his own wellness company, Supergut with the venture inspired his late sister.
“I was inspired to start the company in honor of my late sister, Monica. She struggled with metabolic health issues throughout her adult life before she tragically passed away far too young due to complications during a high-risk pregnancy. Her passing shook me to my core, especially as someone who spent his entire career helping people live healthier lives,” Washington said during an interview with Fitt Insider.
He continued, “I saw first-hand how broken our health system was — including how our incumbent food sector has made it so challenging to live healthier and feel your best. I realized there had to be a better way and decided to honor Monica’s legacy by helping others regain control of their health through convenient, delicious, gut health-promoting functional foods that actually work. I know she would have loved this mission.”
Supergut’s products include a fiber mix and fiber bars in flavors like strawberry almond, chocolate brownie, and peanut butter chocolate. Additionally, shakes are also available in vanilla, strawberry, and chocolate, per its website. Products are made with a patented blend of gut-healing prebiotic fiber, which can contribute to weight loss, blood sugar control, and improved health and digestion, he says.
“Our science is backed by 200+ clinical trials and overseen by an esteemed scientific advisory board,” Washington told Fitt Insider. “We’re also one of the only CPG brands to conduct a gold-standard clinical trial, underlining the positive impact Supergut has on overall wellness and other key health indicators. Since launching Supergut, I’ve been incredibly proud of the significant impact we’ve had on the health and well-being of our customers.”
Supergut has received traction from investors, raising $8.2 million in a Series A round, its LinkedIn mentions. Its additional wins include landing in Target stores and most recently Sprouts Farmers Market.
“Exciting retail launch news… Supergut is now available nationwide at Sprouts Farmers Market!!! You can find all of our gut-healthy, GLP-1 boosting superfoods at a Sprouts near you. Really excited for this partnership making it that much easier to give Supergut a try and CRUSH your health goals for 2025! Let’s GOOOOO,” Washington wrote on LinkedIn.
