Ticket Stub Said To Be The Only One In Existence From Michael Jordan's Debut College Game Set To Auction For $10K

TMZ reports a ticket stub from Jordan’s legendary reign playing at the University of North Carolina (UNC) will be auctioned on July 25. The memorabilia is from a 1981 matchup with the North Carolina Tar Heels against Kansas Jayhawks. Heritage Auction reports the stub is poor 1 grading. However, given its rarity, its estimated value is set for a minimum of $10,000.

“This is the only stub appearing in the PSA population for Jordan’s collegiate debut, a victory over Kansas on November 28, 1981, effectively the first appearance of the game’s greatest player on the national stage,” according to a statement from Heritage Auction.

The value of the memorabilia could certainly skyrocket as it represents the beginning of Jordan’s historic career in sports. While playing for UNC from the 1981-82 season to the 1983-84 season, he averaged 17.7 points per game and shot 54 percent from the field. What’s more, Jordan went on to receive two high honors in collegiate basketball including the Naismith and Wooden College Player of the Year awards in 1984.

Earlier this year, AfroTech reported that an unused ticket for Jordan’s debut NBA game against the Washington Bullets in 1984 sold for an impressive $468,000 in February. Owner Mike Cole learned he was sitting on a pot of gold after seeing other Jordan memorabilia sell for groundbreaking numbers, and he, too, wanted a piece of the pie.

“I’m a huge sports fan, and I enjoy keeping tickets as memories of good times I’ve had,” Cole said, according to Yahoo Sports. “Before that night, if you’d have given me $500 for that ticket, I’d probably taken it. I wasn’t waiting for the right time to sell or to figure out if I had the only one. I just didn’t know this market for tickets existed.”

In addition, one of twenty-three stubs from the 1984 debut game also sold for $99,000 in Heritage Auction’s February 2022 Platinum Night auction
